Terrängbil (Off-road car) 11 and its other versions is a development from Volvo's previous Pltgb 903 (personal cargo truck 903) which is popularly called Valpen, "the Puppy". Designed by Volvo for the Swedish Armed Forces. In the Swedish terrain, it is advantageous with relatively narrow vehicles, rather than vehicles such as the Humvee, that would have great difficulty to come by on the narrow forest paths. TGB 11 has two axes, while Tgb 13 and 20 have three. The vehicles operate normally only the rear wheels, but the front wheels can be switched in to drive on all wheels. Vacuum-controlled differential locks are also available on all models. To get as high ground clearance as possible, portal axles weer used. The drawback with these is that the vehicle has a higher center of gravity.
