Illustrated colour reference guide to the terrifying Battle of Britain. Features colour profiles of aircraft that saw service in the battle – in particular Messerschmitts, Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft. Includes 3 large decal sheet.
A crucial turning point of WWII, the German airforce’s 1940 campaign against Britain was the first campaign to have been entirely carried out by aircraft. It pitched the German Messerschmitt Bf 109E and the Bf110C against the British Hurricane Mk 1 and the Spitfire Mk 1. The Bf109E and the Spitfire were particularly well-matched in speed and agility.
There were four phases to the battle, starting with the conflicts over the Channel from 10 July, through to the attacks on coastal airfields, inland airfields and British towns and cities. These required the usage of a variety of aircraft, such as the German bombers the Heinkel He111, the Dornier Do17, and the Junkers Ju88.
